Lapsed Donors

Active Donors

It's important to note, that you can only become a lapsed donor if you were already labeled an active donor. To be an active donor you must have given at least 3 times, no slower than once per quarter (about once every 3 months or 90 days). If you give slower than that (e.g. once per year), we don't have enough data to consider you an active donor.

Giving Frequency

Lapsed donors in GivFlow are calculated based on giving frequency. GivFlow learns when a donor typically gives and how often. Think weekly, or bi-monthly, or monthly. GivFlow is always learning donor giving patterns and we don't care how they give (online vs offline). We'll change their frequency as they change their giving patterns.

Determining A Lapsed Donor

GivFlow uses the giving frequency of the donor, and determines when that donor has missed 2 consecutive frequencies. If a donor typically gives every 30 days, it would take 60 days with no donations to determine if that donor has lapsed.

If a donor typically gives weekly, and begins giving every other week (every 7 days, to every 14 days), GivFlow would learn this and the donor would not lapse.

*We do have some built functionality to help adjust for ACH pending donations as well as some generally padding to help offset false lapsed donors. However, we feel very confident in the algorithm in determining donors that have lapsed with solid accuracy at the quickest available moment possible.
